Ca’ di Pesa Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2019
Produced by Ca’ di Pesa in the Chianti Classico region reflect both the passion of the wine maker Diego Ciurletti and the terrior of Conco d’Oro. Vinification takes place in terracota amphorae. 100% Sangiovese.

A new offering in the range, the 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is one of the best wines I have tasted from Ca' di Pesa. Super-ripe red cherry, plum, licorice and spice are dialed up in this decidedly extroverted Gran Selezione. Ripeness is very much pushed to the edge, but it all works so well. There is nothing heavy or overdone here. The 2019 spent 30 months in barrel (40% new) followed by 5 months in cement.

Color: intense ruby red
Aroma: slightly fruity, spicy, with elements of vanilla
Tasting Notes: elegant and refined, this wine has an excellent structure; round, with a soft, persistent finish, with evolved tannins.

Red meat dishes, such as roasts, steaks and braised meats. Even game dishes, such as wild boar and rabbit. You can enjoy Chianti even with a nice cheese platter, especially aged ones such as Pecorino and Parmigiano.

Vinification: in cement vats and terracota amphora, cold maceration for 24-36 hours, followed by alcoholic fermentation. Frequent remontage, delastage at the end of fermentation when needed. Warm maceration for a period of 7 days. Malolactic fermentation in French oak barriques for 30 months (medium toasted) to enrich depth, elegance, and a harmony of aromas. Aging in bottle: 6 months minimum.
